Holland America's 15 cruise ships are adding a new,
all-vegetarian menu, as well as 30 new vegetarian dishes to their
existing dining options. Some of the new dishes will be vegan as
well. Both vegetarian and vegan menus are available upon request.
Some of the new options include: Vietnamese Vegetable Spring Rolls,
Curried Vegetable Empanadas and Baked Cheese Polenta with
Mushrooms.
"Many more people are choosing a vegetarian culinary experience,
yet the options can be limited. By offering a complete
vegetarian-only menu and the largest vegetarian selection at sea,
we are ensuring that all guests can take part in an exceptional
dining experience while cruising with Holland America Line," said
Holland America's executive vice president. (Source: USA

Some of the Holland America ships are very large, with passenger
capacities well over 1,000. With such a large audience on each
ship, it's important to provide options for various diets. One of
the main draws for cruise ships is their food, specifically the
buffets. Including many more vegetarian and vegan options provides
alternatives to calorie-rich and sometimes fat-laden, meat-based
foods offered on buffets, which can cause weight gain while on a
week-long vacation. For those concerned about gaining weight on
vacation, vegetarian food choices can certainly be helpful in
maintaining a healthy diet.
